Egypt Mining Forum 2026

Egypt's government-hosted mining forum for ministers, miners, investors and explorers focused on the Arabian-Nubian Shield.

About this event

The fifth Egypt Mining Forum brought ministers, mining companies, investors, explorers and technology suppliers to The St. Regis New Capital in Cairo on 28–29 September 2026. Held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and hosted by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources with support from the Mineral Resources & Mining Industries Authority (MRMIA), it ran under the theme "Unlocking Egypt and the Arabian Nubian Shield's Exploration Potential" and was billed by the organisers as the largest edition to date.

Why it mattered

Egypt is reforming its mining rules to turn largely underexplored geology into operating mines and downstream industry, with a stated goal of mining contributing 6% of GDP. The forum served as a working platform for government-to-government talks, government-to-business meetings and investor discussions on licences, projects, financing, joint ventures, processing and technology procurement.

  • Model Mining Exploitation Agreement framework and lower exploration licence fees
  • VAT and customs exemptions on mining equipment and services
  • New reconnaissance licences for junior explorers and one-stop permitting
  • A nationwide airborne mineral survey, the first in more than four decades

Conferences and exhibition

The programme combined a Strategic Conference on policy, investment and project development with a Technical Conference on exploration, geoscience, technology and mine development, plus leadership roundtables. An exhibition showed equipment, drilling, geoscience, processing and operations solutions from more than 100 companies.

Who took part

Egypt's Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, HE Eng. Karim Badawi, was joined by mining ministers from the DR Congo, Ghana, Tanzania, Nigeria and other countries, Saudi Arabia's Vice Minister of Mining Affairs, and leaders from AngloGold Ashanti, In2Metals, Elsewedy Electric, ICMM, the World Bank Group, EBRD, Afreximbank, Trafigura and Metso.
