BBTC MENA 2027

Technical conference for refiners, licensors and suppliers on residue upgrading and bottom-of-the-barrel conversion.

About this event

BBTC MENA, the Bottom of the Barrel Technology Conference, is Euro Petroleum Consultants' regional technical forum on getting more value out of the heaviest fractions of the crude barrel. The 2027 edition in Bahrain runs under the theme "Unlocking Profitability through Bottom-of-the-Barrel Innovation", is hosted by Bahrain's Ministry of Oil and Environment and is held in conjunction with the ME-CAT catalyst conference that follows it.

What's covered

The programme focuses on residue upgrading routes, cleaner product strategies and how refiners can stay flexible with heavier and opportunity crudes.

  • Residue upgrading: delayed coking, visbreaking and solvent deasphalting
  • Slurry hydrocracking and ebullated bed technologies
  • Feedstock flexibility, heavy crude processing and contaminant management
  • Advanced hydroprocessing and hydrogen management
  • Unit revamps and repurposing with minimal capex
  • Integration with petrochemical routes: propylene, aromatics and intermediates
  • Bitumen, base oils and specialty products from residue streams
  • Energy efficiency, emissions reduction and carbon capture for bottom-of-the-barrel units
  • RFCC technologies and coker applications

Who attends

The conference brings together regional refiners, technology licensors and solution providers, with a call for abstracts open to case studies and practical examples of technology in operation. The 2026 edition was attended by the CEO of BAPCO alongside refiners such as ADNOC Refining, GPIC and OQ8, according to the organizer.

Format

Two days of presentations and panels, pre-arranged one-to-one meetings between operators and suppliers, and networking. BBTC MENA runs back to back with ME-CAT (Middle East Catalyst Technology Conference) on 24-25 March 2027, and a combined pass covers both events.
