The short answer

Düsseldorf's biggest business events in 2026–27 are MEDICA and COMPAMED (16–19 November 2026), ProWein (7–9 March 2027), the four metals fairs GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST (21–25 June 2027) and A+A (19–22 October 2027). Almost all of them take place at Messe Düsseldorf, a fairground with 19 halls a few minutes from the airport. Most are trade-only, and the admission ticket does not include public transport.

Key takeaways

  • Nearly every major business event in Düsseldorf is held at Messe Düsseldorf, Stockumer Kirchstraße 61, which has 19 halls and 262,000 m² of hall space.
  • 2027 is a metals year: GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST run together on 21–25 June 2027 and return only every four years.
  • MEDICA (healthcare, November), ProWein (wine and spirits, March) and A+A (workplace safety, October 2027) are the city's largest recurring fairs.
  • Fair tickets no longer include local transport; buy a Rheinbahn ticket or take the U78, U79 or U80 to the fairground stops.
  • Taxis charge a fixed €25 between Düsseldorf Airport and any fair entrance, and the U81 runs from the airport to Messe Nord on selected event days.

Which Düsseldorf trade fairs are worth attending?

Düsseldorf hosts several fairs that lead their industry worldwide. Pick by sector; most run every year, but some return only every two or four years.

Healthcare and medical technology

MEDICA 2026 runs 16–19 November 2026 alongside COMPAMED 2026, the supplier fair for medical manufacturing. The organizer reports about 78,000 visitors from 160 countries and 4,821 exhibitors at the 2025 edition. The 2026 show adds a Hospital of the Future area and a new Main Stage. Later in 2027, REHACARE INTERNATIONAL 2027 (15–18 September) covers rehabilitation and care, and expopharm 2027 (28–30 September) is the German pharmacy market's main fair, held with the German Pharmacists' Day.

Wine and spirits

ProWein 2027 runs 7–9 March 2027 in Halls 1, 3, 4, 5, 7.0 and 7a. It is trade-only: producers show to importers, retailers, sommeliers and buyers from more than 140 countries, with ProSpirits, ProWein Zero (no- and low-alcohol) and organic areas.

Metals and manufacturing

The Bright World of Metals returns on 21–25 June 2027: GIFA 2027 (foundry technology), METEC 2027 (metallurgy), THERMPROCESS 2027 (industrial furnaces and heat treatment) and NEWCAST 2027 (cast products). The four fairs run every four years and share the grounds, so one trip covers the metals value chain. Decarbonisation, smart factories and the circular economy are the 2027 lead themes. glasstec 2026 (20–23 October 2026) and VALVE WORLD EXPO 2026 (1–3 December 2026) cover glass and industrial valves.

Safety, retail and technology

A+A 2027, held every two years, runs 19–22 October 2027 for personal protective equipment and workplace safety; the 2025 edition drew 66,636 visitors and 2,335 exhibitors. EuroCIS 2027 (16–18 February) is Messe Düsseldorf's retail technology fair, covering checkout, payment, loss prevention and retail media. For drones and autonomous systems, see XPONENTIAL Europe 2027.

Where are business events held in Düsseldorf?

Almost every fair in this guide is at Messe Düsseldorf, the exhibition centre in the north of the city between the Rhine and the airport. Messe Düsseldorf lists 19 exhibition halls with 262,000 m² of hall space and 43,000 m² of outdoor space.

Venue Area What it hosts Getting there
Messe Düsseldorf, Stockumer Kirchstraße 61 Stockum, north Düsseldorf Trade fairs: MEDICA, ProWein, GIFA, A+A, EuroCIS U78 to MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA/Messe Nord; U78, U79, U80 or bus 722 to Messe Ost/Stockumer Kirchstraße
Congress Center Düsseldorf (CCD) South end of the fairground Congresses held alongside fairs Bus 722 to Messe Süd/Congress Center

The fairground has North, East and South entrances, and big fairs use different halls, so check your hall number before you set off. glasstec, for example, uses Halls 10 to 17 and asks visitors to use the North and East entrances. Drivers leave the A44 at junction 29 (Messe/Arena) and park at P1 or P2, which take cashless payment only; free shuttle buses run to the entrances.

Getting there and around

Düsseldorf Airport is the fastest way in. According to the fairs' arrival pages, the U80 runs from the airport terminal to Messe Ost, the city centre and the central station, and the U81 reaches MERKUR SPIEL-ARENA/Messe Nord in about seven minutes on selected event days. A taxi takes about 10 minutes and costs a fixed €25 between the airport and any fair entrance.

From the city, change at Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof (central station) or Heinrich-Heine-Allee for the U78 to the fairground. Rail travellers inside Germany can buy a Deutsche Bahn Event Ticket, which includes the onward trip from the station to the exhibition grounds.

Key practical points:

  • Public transport is not included. Messe Düsseldorf's fair tickets no longer include free local transport. Buy a Rheinbahn ticket (a 24-hour ticket covers up to five people) or a DüsseldorfCard.
  • Visas. Germany is in the Schengen Area. MEDICA notes that visitors no longer need an invitation from the trade fair company for a visa application; ask the German embassy or consulate in your country about entry.
  • Evenings. ProWein runs a free shuttle from the South entrance to the Altstadt (old town) on some evenings. The Tourist Information office is in the old town at Rheinstraße 3.

How to make the most of a Düsseldorf fair

Buy online, early. Messe Düsseldorf fairs charge less online than at the door: glasstec 2026 costs €46 for a day ticket online against €63 on site, and ProWein lists €50 online and €60 on site for a day ticket. Exhibitors often send voucher codes that you redeem in the ticket shop for free or reduced entry.

  1. Register as a trade visitor. ProWein, glasstec and most other fairs here admit trade visitors only, and you register with company details before you can buy a ticket.
  2. Use the matchmaking tools. Many Messe Düsseldorf fairs run online exhibitor databases and matchmaking before the fair; book meetings two to four weeks ahead.
  3. Plan by hall. Fairs such as MEDICA spread across many halls; map your route by hall number and entrance.
  4. Book hotels early in peak weeks. MEDICA, ProWein and the June 2027 metals fairs bring the largest crowds, so reserve rooms as soon as you decide to go.
  5. Check the fair's frequency. GIFA and METEC skip three years after 2027; A+A skips 2026. If a fair is central to your business, plan around its next edition.
