The 19th International Conference on Psychiatry

The 19th International Conference on Psychiatry is an international scientific meeting hosted in Jeddah by Al-Sobh Hospital, a member of Saudi German Hospitals Group, together with the Saudi Psychiatric Association. Under the theme Psychiatry in a Changing World: Challenges, Progress, and New Possibilities, it brings clinicians and researchers together to look at how psychiatry is evolving in response to medical, social, cultural and global change.

Organisers and partners

Organised by Al-Sobh Hospital, Saudi German Hospitals Group and the Saudi Psychiatric Association, in partnership with the Okasha Institute of Psychiatry at Ain Shams University, the Egyptian Psychiatric Association and the World Psychiatric Association. Prof. Ahmed Okasha, former WPA President, is Honorary Chairman, and Dr. Dakhel Alsaadi heads the Scientific Committee.

Preliminary topics

The scientific programme is still being finalised; the preliminary topics include:

• Arab mental health services: development, policy, pathways to care and economics
• Liaison psychiatry
• Psychosis: early intervention and outcomes
• Mood disorders, including depression and bipolar disorder
• Personality, eating and psychosexual disorders
• Child & adolescent and old age psychiatry
• Brain imaging in diagnosis and management
• Culture, ethics, religion and spirituality in clinical practice
• Medical education, psychiatric training and stigma
