The short answer

The biggest US energy and environment events in 2026–27 are RE+ in Las Vegas (16–19 November 2026) for solar and storage, CERAWeek in Houston (8–12 March 2027) for energy leadership, the Offshore Technology Conference in Houston (3–5 May 2027) and Gastech in Houston (14–17 September 2027) for oil, gas and LNG. Grid, water and waste have their own flagships: DTECH in Atlanta, WEFTEC in Chicago and WasteExpo in Las Vegas.

Key takeaways

  • Houston is the centre of the oil, gas and LNG calendar: NAPE, CERAWeek, OTC, IMAGE and Gastech all take place there in 2027.
  • Clean power splits into three big shows: RE+ (Las Vegas, November), Intersolar & Energy Storage North America (San Diego, February) and CLEANPOWER (Anaheim, May).
  • Utilities and grid teams meet at DTECH (Atlanta, 1–4 March 2027) and POWERGEN (Salt Lake City, 18–21 January 2027).
  • Water and waste professionals have WEFTEC (Chicago, 25–29 September 2027), AWWA ACE27 (San Diego, June) and WasteExpo (Las Vegas, May).
  • Society-run technical conferences such as SPE ATCE and OTC suit engineers; executive conferences such as CERAWeek suit strategy, policy and investment roles.

Which events matter most in each sector?

Each sector has one or two flagship events; start there and add specialist events once you know the field.

Oil, gas and LNG

CERAWeek 2027, run by S&P Global at the Hilton Americas-Houston on 8–12 March 2027, is where energy CEOs, ministers and investors debate strategy. The Offshore Technology Conference 2027 runs 3–5 May 2027 at Reliant Park, Houston, co-located with URTeC; its organiser describes an audience of about 25,000 energy professionals. Gastech 2027 comes to the George R. Brown Convention Center on 14–17 September 2027. Engineers also follow the society meetings: SPE ATCE 2026 (21–23 October 2026), the SPE Hydraulic Fracturing Technology Conference 2027 and IMAGE 2027 for geoscientists. NAPE Summit 2027 (3–5 February) is the marketplace for buying and selling prospects and producing properties.

Solar, storage, wind and hydrogen

RE+ 2026 is at the Las Vegas Convention Center: education runs 16–18 November and the show floor 17–19 November 2026. It is powered by SEIA and SEPA, and the next edition, RE+ 2027, is set for 15–18 November 2027. Intersolar & Energy Storage North America 2027 (San Diego, 9–11 February) suits installers, EPCs and distributors. CLEANPOWER 2027 (Anaheim, 24–27 May), from the American Clean Power Association, covers wind, solar, storage, transmission and dealmaking. Offshore wind has IPF: Tech at Sea 2027 in Newport, Rhode Island, and hydrogen has the Hydrogen Technology Expo North America 2027 in Houston.

Power generation and the grid

POWERGEN 2027 (Salt Lake City, 18–21 January) is for utilities, independent power producers, EPCs and OEMs adding generation. DTECH 2027 (Atlanta, 1–4 March) focuses on transmission and distribution. Fleets moving to electric and alternative fuels meet at ACT Expo 2027 (Las Vegas, 17–20 May), and battery engineers at The Battery Show North America 2027 (Detroit, 11–14 October).

Water, waste and materials

WEFTEC 2027 runs 25–29 September 2027 at McCormick Place, Chicago; the Water Environment Federation lists more than 1,000 exhibitors and 125-plus technical sessions. Drinking water utilities meet at AWWA ACE27 (San Diego, 13–16 June). WasteExpo 2027 (Las Vegas, 3–6 May) serves haulers and public-sector operators, and the Plastics Recycling Conference 2027 (National Harbor, 1–3 March) covers the recycling value chain. Architects and developers working on sustainable buildings go to Greenbuild 2026 in New York.

Technical conference, trade show or executive forum: which should you attend?

Engineers get the most from technical conferences, buyers and sellers from trade shows, and senior leaders from executive forums.

Format Examples What happens Best for
Technical conference with exhibition SPE ATCE, OTC, IMAGE, WEFTEC, AWWA ACE Peer-reviewed papers, short courses, an expo Engineers, scientists, utility staff
Trade show RE+, Intersolar, POWERGEN, WasteExpo, Gastech Large show floor, product launches, education tracks Buyers, distributors, project developers
Executive forum CERAWeek Plenary and dialogue sessions with energy CEOs and ministers Executives, investors, policy teams
Marketplace NAPE Summit Booths for buying and selling assets Landmen, A&D teams, investors
Association meeting CLEANPOWER, Southeastern & International Propane Expo Industry policy, networking, an expo Members and their suppliers

Many technical conferences are run by professional societies, such as the Society of Petroleum Engineers for SPE ATCE and OTC, or the American Water Works Association for ACE27. Members usually pay less, so joining the society can pay for itself if you attend once a year.

Where do these events take place?

Houston and Las Vegas host the largest share of this calendar, followed by San Diego, Chicago and Atlanta.

International visitors should check whether they can travel under the Visa Waiver Program with an ESTA or need a business visa, and allow time for an embassy interview before spring events such as CERAWeek and OTC.

How to choose the right energy event in the US

Pick by your sector first, then by whether you need technical depth, buyers or senior contacts.

  1. Upstream oil and gas engineer: SPE ATCE or OTC, plus the SPE hydraulic fracturing conference if you work in completions.
  2. Energy strategy, investment or policy: CERAWeek in March.
  3. Solar or storage developer, installer or distributor: RE+ in November; add Intersolar in February for the West Coast market.
  4. Utility or grid technology: DTECH for transmission and distribution, POWERGEN for generation, Utility Analytics Week for data teams.
  5. Gas and LNG trading or infrastructure: Gastech in September 2027.
  6. Water or wastewater utility: WEFTEC for wastewater and water quality, AWWA ACE for drinking water.
  7. Fleet electrification or alternative fuels: ACT Expo in May.

If you cover several sectors, March to May 2027 in Houston (CERAWeek, then OTC) and November in Las Vegas (RE+) give the widest view of the US energy market in the fewest trips.
