The short answer
Shanghai's business event calendar is built around large B2B trade fairs at two venues, SNIEC in Pudong and the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC) in Hongqiao. The autumn peak brings CIIE (5–10 November 2026), bauma CHINA (23–27 November) and Automechanika Shanghai (2–5 December). After a quiet winter, the spring season runs from SEMICON China in March to MWC Shanghai in June. Many fairs are free for registered trade visitors.
Key takeaways
- There are two main seasons: late October to early December, and March to July. Textile fairs return in late August and September.
- January and February are quiet around Chinese New Year. atndr lists no Shanghai trade fairs between early December 2026 and March 2027.
- Many shows are trade-only and free for registered professionals. For example, Automechanika Shanghai admits trade visitors aged 18 and over at no charge.
- Check which venue your fair uses. SNIEC is in Pudong on Metro Line 7. NECC is next to Hongqiao airport and railway station on Line 2.
- Many shows co-locate. ProWine and FHC share dates in November, and SEMICON China and productronica share them in March, so one trip can cover two events.

Trade and imports
CIIE is China's national import expo. Foreign companies and country pavilions show products to Chinese buyers and procurement delegations. The Hongqiao International Economic Forum runs at the same time. Professional visitors register in advance on the CIIE website, which also gives access to its online matchmaking platform.
Industry and machinery
In 2026, bauma CHINA uses two Pudong venues for the first time: SNIEC and the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center. One ticket covers both, and visitor tickets are free. Automechanika Shanghai uses the whole of NECC, which its organizer puts at around 390,000 sqm across 16 halls. PTC ASIA covers hydraulics and power transmission, ALUMINIUM CHINA covers metals, and ProPak China covers packaging machinery.
Technology and electronics
In spring, Pudong hosts the electronics shows: SEMICON China alongside FPD China and the CSTIC conference, productronica Shanghai, electronica Shanghai and Laser World of Photonics. MWC Shanghai is the GSMA's Asian event and mixes keynotes with an exhibition.
Food, drink and consumer goods
FHC and ProWine Shanghai both run 10–12 November 2026. SIAL Shanghai runs in May, and HOTELEX covers foodservice and hospitality equipment in March and April. China Beauty Expo and CBME China serve beauty and baby-product buyers.
Which venues host Shanghai's trade fairs?
Almost every fair on atndr's Shanghai calendar is at one of two venues. They are on opposite sides of the city, so check the venue before you book a hotel.
| Venue | Area | Typical shows | Getting there |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC), 2345 Longyang Road | Pudong, east | SEMICON China, electronica, SIAL, MWC Shanghai, bauma CHINA | Metro Line 7 to Huamu Road (next to Entrance 2), or Lines 2/7 and the Maglev to Longyang Road, about 10 minutes' walk |
| National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC), 333 Songze Avenue | Hongqiao, west | CIIE, Automechanika, Intertextile, Yarn Expo, CPHI & PMEC China | Metro Line 2 to National Exhibition and Convention Center station (exits 4–6). About 1.5 km from the Hongqiao transport hub |
SNIEC has three entrances, and each one opens onto different halls. Entrance 1 serves Halls E1 and W1, Entrance 2 serves N1 and W5, and Entrance 3 serves N5 and E7. Find your exhibitor's hall before you set off. NECC's halls are arranged in a cloverleaf around a central plaza, so allow time to walk between them.
How do I get to Shanghai and around the venues?
For a Pudong show, fly into Pudong International Airport. For a Hongqiao show, fly into Hongqiao or arrive by high-speed rail at Hongqiao Railway Station.
- Pudong airport to SNIEC: the Maglev reaches Longyang Road in about 7 minutes and runs 08:30–17:30. A taxi takes about 45–50 minutes and costs about RMB 120, according to the organizer's travel page.
- Hongqiao airport to NECC: a taxi takes about 10 minutes (around RMB 20). Metro Line 2 also runs straight to the venue.
- Pudong airport to NECC: expect about 90 minutes by taxi (around RMB 250).
- Between the two venues: Metro Line 2 links Longyang Road and the NECC station, so you can reach both on one line.
Visas: Messe Frankfurt's 2026 travel guidance for Automechanika says many nationalities can now enter China visa-free, and others can use the 240-hour visa-free transit. Exhibitors who need a visa apply with an invitation letter. Policies change often, so confirm with the Chinese embassy or consulate before you book.
Hotels: In peak weeks, such as the November CIIE period, hotels near both venues fill early. Book a hotel on the same metro line as your venue rather than one in the centre.
How do I register and get the most out of a Shanghai trade fair?
Most fairs ask trade visitors to pre-register online. Pre-registration is usually free and gets you a QR badge that you collect or scan at the gate.
- Register early on the official site. Automechanika Shanghai, for example, is free for trade visitors aged 18 and over, and gives a free e-catalogue to people who pre-register by 31 October 2026 and attend.
- Use the matchmaking tools. CIIE has an online matchmaking platform for professional visitors, and SIAL Shanghai offers pre-qualified business meetings. Book meetings in the weeks before the show, not on site.
- Combine co-located shows. SEMICON China and productronica run 24–26 March 2027. Intertextile Spring and Yarn Expo Spring run 10–12 March 2027. ProWine and FHC run 10–12 November 2026.
- Check the conference programme. Many fairs run paid or invitation-only forums, such as the Hongqiao International Economic Forum at CIIE and around 100 conference sessions at Automechanika. Some need separate registration.
- Prepare for language and payments. Bring business cards in English and Chinese. Set up a mobile payment app before you arrive, because exhibitor follow-up often happens over WeChat.
