The short answer

The biggest technology events in the United States in 2026–27 are CES 2027 (6–9 January, Las Vegas), AWS re:Invent 2026 (30 November–4 December, Las Vegas), NVIDIA GTC 2027 (14–18 March, San Jose), RSAC 2027 (5–8 April, San Francisco) and Microsoft Ignite 2026 (17–20 November, San Francisco). The calendar peaks in October–December and March–June, centred on Las Vegas and San Francisco. Full passes usually cost USD 1,000–2,500, and many vendors stream keynotes free.

Key takeaways

  • The US technology calendar peaks twice: October–December (cloud and developer conferences) and March–June (AI, security and vendor user conferences).
  • Las Vegas and San Francisco host most of the big events; Austin, San Jose, Orlando, New York and Miami Beach each have one or two anchors.
  • Vendor conferences (re:Invent, Ignite, Google Cloud Next, Dreamforce) are for teams on that platform; RSAC, KubeCon and Gartner are neutral.
  • Full passes usually cost USD 1,000–2,500; Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo lists USD 8,200, while Ignite, GitHub Universe and re:Invent keynotes can be followed free online.
  • International visitors need an ESTA or a US visa: apply as soon as you start planning.

When are the main technology events in the United States?

The US technology calendar has two peaks: October to December, when the big cloud and developer conferences run, and March to June, when AI, security and vendor user conferences crowd together. January belongs to CES 2027, and July–August is security season in Las Vegas. Only the weeks around the year-end holidays and July 4 are quiet.

Two cities carry most of the calendar. Las Vegas hosts the shows that need the most hotel rooms and floor space (CES, re:Invent, Google Cloud Next, Cisco Live, Black Hat). San Francisco hosts the developer and platform conferences at Moscone Center (Microsoft Ignite, RSAC, Dreamforce, Data + AI Summit). Austin, San Jose, Orlando, New York and Miami Beach each have one or two anchor events.

Cloud and enterprise platforms

The vendor conferences are where the big platforms announce products and train their customers. AWS re:Invent 2026 lists more than 2,200 sessions across six Strip venues, with a security focus day on 3 December now that re:Inforce is folded in. Microsoft Ignite 2026, Google Cloud Next 2027, Oracle AI World 2026, Cisco Live 2027, Dell Technologies World 2027, Red Hat Summit 2027, IBM Think 2027 and HPE Discover Las Vegas 2027 follow the same model: keynotes, hands-on labs, certification and an expo of partners.

AI and data

NVIDIA GTC 2027 is the reference event for AI infrastructure and accelerated computing. HumanX 2027 and Ai4 2027 are built for business buyers of AI rather than engineers, and The AI Summit New York 2026 is the East Coast option. Data teams pick between Data + AI Summit 2027 (Databricks) and Snowflake Summit 27, depending on their stack.

Developers and open source

KubeCon + CloudNativeCon North America 2026 is the main event for Kubernetes and cloud native teams; CNCF expects 9,000-plus attendees. GitHub Universe 2026 covers developer tools and AI agents, and All Things Open 2026 in Raleigh is a lower-cost open source option.

Security

RSAC 2027 Conference is the industry's main business meeting; RSAC reports that 25% of its attendees authorize purchasing decisions. Black Hat USA 2027 is more technical, with trainings and research briefings, and DEF CON 35 follows it in the same week in Las Vegas.

Startups, founders and investors

SaaStr AI Annual 2027 (B2B software go-to-market), Startup Grind Global Conference 2027 and eMerge Americas 2027 (Miami, with a strong Latin American audience) are the main founder events. SEMICON West 2027 moves to Phoenix in spring from 2027 and serves the chip supply chain.

Vendor conference, independent conference or trade show: which should you attend?

Pick the format before you pick the event. The three formats in the US calendar serve different goals, and the same budget buys very different trips.

Format Examples What you get Watch out for
Vendor conference re:Invent, Ignite, Google Cloud Next, Dreamforce Product roadmaps, labs, certification, the vendor's engineers Content is about one platform
Independent conference RSAC, KubeCon, Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo, SaaStr Neutral content, peers from many companies, buyer–vendor meetings Higher prices for analyst-led events
Trade show CES, InfoComm, ISC West, NAB Show Thousands of exhibitors, product sourcing, launches Trade-only rules and proof of affiliation
  • Go to a vendor conference when your team already runs on that platform and needs training, roadmap detail or meetings with its product teams. Many stream keynotes free, so you only need to travel for the labs and meetings.
  • Go to an independent conference to compare vendors, meet peers outside your stack or hire. KubeCon and RSAC are where competing vendors exhibit side by side.
  • Go to a trade show to source products, launch your own or meet buyers. CES 2027 is trade-only: registrants must be 18 or older and prove their link to the consumer technology industry.

Hybrid matters too. GitHub Universe, Microsoft Ignite and Data + AI Summit offer a free or included online option, and AWS livestreams re:Invent keynotes for free.

How much do passes cost for US technology conferences in 2026–27?

Expect to pay roughly USD 1,000 to 2,500 for a full pass to a major US technology conference, and much more for analyst-led events. These are the prices the organizers list for the coming editions (check the official site before you book, as many rise on a schedule):

Event Pass prices as listed
AWS re:Invent 2026 Full conference pass USD 2,499; no day or expo-only passes
Microsoft Ignite 2026 Conference USD 2,325; Hub-only USD 1,625; Digital free
KubeCon + CloudNativeCon NA 2026 Late rates: All-Access USD 2,278 corporate, 1,278 individual, 275 academic; conference-only USD 1,899 / 899 / 200, plus Utah sales tax
GitHub Universe 2026 In person USD 1,399 (USD 1,119 each for 4+); virtual free
Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo 2026 USD 8,200 standard; USD 6,125 public sector
SXSW 2027 Platinum USD 1,495; Innovation USD 995 (rising through the season)
Ai4 2027 Standard USD 1,595, VIP USD 2,795; free passes for approved enterprise AI buyers
HumanX 2027 All Access USD 2,695; Startups USD 1,195; free Adopters Pass for qualified AI buyers

Ways to cut the cost:

  1. Book early. SXSW, KubeCon and SaaStr all publish rising price tiers.
  2. Buy as a group. re:Invent gives 10% off 10 or more passes, KubeCon 10% off five or more corporate passes, and Gartner one free registration for every four paid.
  3. Apply for a buyer or adopter pass. Ai4 and HumanX give free passes to qualified enterprise buyers, because vendors pay for the meetings.
  4. Check the age rule. Most conferences require attendees to be 18; Ai4 requires 21.

Registration for several 2027 events (Google Cloud Next, Black Hat USA, Cisco Live, Dreamforce) had not opened at the time of writing; the organizers offer sign-ups for alerts.

What should international attendees sort out before travelling?

Most international visitors need either an ESTA under the Visa Waiver Program or a US visa; check which applies to your passport early. US Customs and Border Protection says ESTA applications can be submitted at any time before travel and recommends applying as soon as you start planning, and that you need an e-Passport to use the Visa Waiver Program. Visitors who are not eligible apply for a visa at a US embassy, where interview wait times can be long, so start months ahead.

  • Las Vegas events spread across several resorts at once. re:Invent, for example, uses Caesars Forum, Caesars Palace, Encore, MGM Grand, The Venetian and Wynn, so book a hotel on the Strip near your main venue. atndr's business events in Las Vegas guide covers the venues.
  • San Francisco conferences use Moscone Center in SoMa. Hotel prices rise sharply in Dreamforce and RSAC weeks; book when registration opens.
  • San Jose for NVIDIA GTC: San Jose International Airport is about three miles from the convention center, according to the GTC listing.
  • Time zones matter for online sessions: Las Vegas and San Francisco run on Pacific time, Salt Lake City on Mountain time, Orlando and New York on Eastern.

How do you choose the right US technology event?

Use five checks before you commit budget to a US technology event:

  1. Your goal. Training and certification point to a vendor conference; comparing vendors points to an independent conference; sourcing or launching products points to a trade show.
  2. The audience. Look for published audience data. Gartner expects 7,000+ CIOs and IT leaders; RSAC reports that 49% of attendees are director level or above.
  3. The programme. Check that sessions match your level: re:Invent labels content from 100-level to 500-level.
  4. The full trip cost. Add flights, four to five hotel nights in a peak week and the pass. A free online pass may cover what you need.
  5. The calendar. Avoid clashes: Black Hat and DEF CON run back to back in August, and SXSW and NVIDIA GTC overlap in mid-March 2027.
