Business events in Birmingham 2026–27: the NEC trade show calendar month by month

Birmingham's 2026–27 trade shows and conferences by month and sector, the NEC and ICC venues, free trade passes and how to get there.

By the atndr teamPublished 7 min read

The short answer

Birmingham's business events are trade shows at the NEC, next to Birmingham Airport, with a few association conferences at the ICC in the city centre. The busiest months are November, February, April and June: Spring Fair (7–10 February 2027), the Commercial Vehicle Show (20–22 April), the Safety & Security Event Series (27–29 April) and Automechanika Birmingham (8–10 June) lead the calendar. Most shows are free for trade visitors who register in advance; July, August and December are quiet.

Key takeaways

  • Almost every large business event in Birmingham is held at the NEC, a five-minute walk from Birmingham International station and a free 90-second air-rail link from Birmingham Airport.
  • Professional association conferences, such as the RCM Conference (5–6 May 2027) and the BCLA Clinical Conference (19–20 June 2027), use the ICC in the city centre instead.
  • Trade shows usually cluster as co-located events under one registration: LAMMA with CropTec and Low Carbon Agriculture in January, five security and workplace shows in late April, Smart Manufacturing Week with Subcon in June.
  • Most NEC trade shows are free for trade visitors who register online before the day; conferences run by professional bodies sell paid delegate passes.
  • Plan around the peaks: November 2026, February 2027 and April 2027 each bring several shows to the NEC in the same week, so hotels near the airport fill early.

When is the business event season in Birmingham?

Birmingham hosts business events almost all year, but the calendar has four clear peaks: early to late November, late January to February, April, and June. A smaller autumn wave arrives in September and early October. July, August and December are quiet at the NEC for trade events.

The pattern follows buying cycles. Retail buyers come in February (Spring Fair) and September (Autumn Fair) to place orders for the next season. Farmers come in January, before spring work starts. Manufacturing and engineering shows sit in November and June, outside the main holiday periods.

Which Birmingham business events are worth attending?

The best-known shows are national trade events, each the main UK meeting point for its sector. Pick by the sector you buy or sell in.

Retail, fashion and food

Spring Fair 2027 runs 7–10 February at the NEC and is the UK's main wholesale buying show for home, gift, garden and fashion; the organiser cites more than 1,500 wholesale brands, and tickets are free for retail buyers. Pure London now runs inside it, despite the name. Autumn Fair (5–8 September 2027) is the pre-Christmas buying round. Food & Drink Expo and the National Convenience Show share one free trade pass on 12–14 April 2027.

Transport and automotive

Euro Bus Expo (3–5 November 2026) is the bus and coach show; its 2024 edition drew over 7,000 professionals, according to the organiser. The Commercial Vehicle Show (20–22 April 2027) covers trucks, vans and fleet technology with 350+ exhibitors. Automechanika Birmingham (8–10 June 2027) is the automotive aftermarket show run by Messe Frankfurt. Automotive Management LIVE (11 November 2026) is a one-day conference for car dealer groups.

Manufacturing and engineering

Advanced Engineering and UK Metals Expo both run 4–5 November 2026. In 2027, Packaging Innovations & Empack (24–25 February), CHEMUK (19–20 May), Smart Manufacturing Week with Subcon (9–10 June) and Battery Cells & Systems Expo (16–17 June) follow. The European Robotics Forum (2–4 March 2027, ICC) is a paid conference for Europe's robotics research and industry community.

Health and care

The NEC is also a major venue for UK health professionals: Nursing Live (9–10 November 2026), The Occupational Therapy Show and Therapy Show (25–26 November 2026), Digital Health Rewired for NHS digital leaders (16–17 March 2027), Med-Tech Expo (15–16 September 2027) and the primary and social care shows of 6–7 October 2027: Best Practice, Respiratory Health and Care Show.

Agriculture, security and business

LAMMA, CropTec and Low Carbon Agriculture share the NEC on 20–21 January 2027. The Safety & Security Event Series fills the NEC on 27–29 April 2027 with The Security Event, The Fire Safety Event, The Health & Safety Event, National Cyber Security Show and The Workplace Event. Founders and small business owners have the Festival of Entrepreneurs (3–4 November 2026).

Where are business events held in Birmingham?

Two venues host nearly all of them, one by the airport and one in the city centre, so check the venue before booking a hotel.

Venue Where What it hosts Getting there
NEC (National Exhibition Centre) Solihull side of the city, next to Birmingham Airport Large trade shows, often several co-located events across numbered halls Birmingham International station, five minutes' walk; free air-rail link from the airport; M42, M40 and M6
ICC Birmingham City centre, Centenary Square Association and academic conferences, such as the European Robotics Forum, RCM and BCLA Short walk from Birmingham New Street

The NEC is a campus rather than one building: the halls, the Utilita Arena and bp pulse LIVE share the site, and shows announce their hall numbers (for example, Spring Fair spans many halls while the Workplace Event uses Hall 3A). If several shows run the same week, the entrance you use matters; the show website names the nearest one.

How do you get to the NEC and where should you stay?

Arrive by train or plane rather than by car if you can. The NEC says it is a five-minute walk from Birmingham International station, which has direct trains from London Euston, Milton Keynes and Northampton, and from Birmingham New Street in the city centre.

  • By air: Birmingham Airport's free air-rail link runs from the upper level of Terminal 1 to Birmingham International station every two minutes and takes about 90 seconds; from there you walk straight through to the NEC.
  • By car: the NEC is signposted from the M42, M40 and M6. Use the postcode B40 1NT to get close, then follow signs to the car park your show names; a free shuttle bus runs from the car parks. The NEC sells parking online in advance at a discount.
  • Hotels: the hotels on the NEC site and around the airport are the most convenient and the first to sell out in show weeks. Staying in the city centre adds a short train ride each way but gives more choice and is closer to the ICC.
  • Visas: check the UK government's entry rules for your nationality (visa or electronic travel authorisation) well before booking.

How do you register and make the most of a show?

Register online in advance, even for free shows. Most NEC trade shows, including Spring Fair, Advanced Engineering, IntraLogisteX, the Safety & Security Event Series and the UK Food & Drink Shows, are free for trade visitors who register; a few charge at the door or restrict entry to the trade.

  1. Check who may attend. Trade shows such as Autumn Fair are trade only, so bring proof of your business if asked.
  2. Use one registration for co-located shows. In April 2027 one registration covers five safety and security shows; LAMMA, CropTec and Low Carbon Agriculture share the halls on the same two days.
  3. Book seminars early. Most shows run free CPD-accredited theatres; popular sessions fill.
  4. Know which events are paid. Conferences run by professional bodies, such as the PFS Festival of Financial Planning, Therapy Show, the European Robotics Forum and the BCLA Clinical Conference, sell delegate passes; prices are on each listing.
  5. Plan the floor. Use the show's app or meeting planner to book supplier meetings before you arrive, and allow time to walk between halls.
