What does the UK healthcare event calendar look like in 2026–27?
The UK healthcare calendar is split between London and Birmingham, with Edinburgh, Glasgow and Harrogate hosting the large society congresses. London takes the policy summits, life-science investment forums and specialist trade shows; the NEC and ICC in Birmingham take the big national shows for primary care, nursing, social care and NHS digital.
The year has two peaks. October to early December is the busiest stretch: primary care, nursing, therapy, care and veterinary shows all run then. March is the second peak, with primary care, optical, aesthetics and NHS digital events in the same fortnight. June belongs to the medical societies, which hold their annual scientific meetings in Edinburgh and Birmingham.

Which UK healthcare events are worth attending, by audience?
Pick by who you are: most UK healthcare shows are built for one professional group, and many are free only to that group.
GPs and primary care teams
Best Practice Birmingham 2027 (6–7 October 2027, NEC Birmingham) is the national primary care show, co-located with Respiratory Health; its organiser says attendees can earn up to 12 CPD points. Its southern sister, Best Practice London 2027 (2–3 March 2027, Olympia London), runs alongside Women's Health Professional Care. CVRM Professional Care 2026 (20–21 October 2026, Olympia London) covers diabetes, obesity, heart failure and kidney disease for UK healthcare professionals only.
Nurses, midwives and therapists
Nursing Live 2026 (9–10 November 2026, NEC) is RCNi's free CPD event for nurses. The Occupational Therapy Show and Therapy Show share the NEC on 25–26 November 2026. The Royal College of Midwives holds the RCM Conference and Exhibition 2027 at ICC Birmingham on 5–6 May 2027, free for RCM members.
NHS digital and health-tech
Digital Health Rewired 2027 (16–17 March 2027, NEC Hall 2) is where NHS CIOs, CCIOs and CNIOs meet suppliers; the organiser says 95% of NHS trusts are represented. GIANT Health Event 2026 (7–8 December 2026, Business Design Centre, London) is free for NHS staff registering with an NHS email. The Economist's AI in Health Summit (4 November 2026) is the policy-level AI room.
Pharma, biotech and investors
FT Global Pharma and Biotech Summit 2026 (10–11 November 2026, Convene 22 Bishopsgate) is the senior industry meeting. LSX Investival Showcase London (16 November 2026, Old Billingsgate) opens London Life Science Week with 1:1 partnering, and the London Biotechnology Show (18–19 November 2026, ExCeL) is a free-to-visit expo for red biotech.
Social care providers
Care Show Birmingham 2027 (6–7 October 2027, NEC Hall 3) and Care Show London 2027 (14–15 April 2027, ExCeL) are the two main care-sector shows; the one-day Care Management Show London (27 November 2026, ExCeL) is free for care providers.
Specialists
FIS International 2026 (24–26 November 2026, SEC Glasgow) for infection; ESGAR 2027 (15–18 June 2027, EICC Edinburgh) for abdominal radiology; BAOMS ASM 2027 (23–25 June 2027, EICC) for oral and maxillofacial surgery; BCLA Clinical Conference 2027 (19–20 June 2027, ICC Birmingham) for contact lens practitioners; ASPiH Conference 2026 (25–27 November 2026, Harrogate) for simulation educators; ACE 2027 (12–13 March 2027, Business Design Centre) for medical aesthetics; and 100% Optical 2027 (27 February–1 March 2027, ExCeL) for optometrists and opticians. Vets have London Vet Show 2026 (19–20 November 2026, ExCeL).
Clinical show, society congress or policy summit: which format fits?
UK healthcare events come in three formats, and the format usually decides the price and who is in the room.
| Format | Examples | Typical cost to a clinician | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free clinical show (exhibition + CPD theatres) | Best Practice, Nursing Live, CVRM Professional Care | Free if eligible; commercial pass paid | CPD hours, meeting suppliers, practice teams |
| Society congress | FIS International, ESGAR, BAOMS ASM | Paid registration, member discounts | Research, abstracts, specialist peers |
| Policy or investor summit | FT Global Pharma and Biotech Summit, Future of Health Europe, LSX Investival | Paid; some complimentary places | Senior leaders, partnering, investors |
Free clinical shows are run by commercial organisers (CloserStill Media runs Best Practice, CVRM Professional Care, the Therapy and OT shows, Care Show and 100% Optical). Clinicians get in free because suppliers pay for the exhibition; anyone selling to the NHS buys a commercial pass.
Society congresses are run by the professional body. They charge registration, give members the best rate and accept abstracts months ahead: ESGAR opens abstract submission on 2 November 2026, and BAOMS closes its call on 19 January 2027.
Summits sell expensive passes to industry and give free or discounted places to policymakers, clinicians and patient groups.
What do UK healthcare events cost?
For a UK clinician most shows are free; for a supplier or an overseas executive, expect to pay from a few hundred to a few thousand pounds. Prices below are those the organisers published for these editions, before VAT.
| Event | Who pays what |
|---|---|
| Best Practice, Nursing Live, ACE | Free for eligible professionals |
| The Occupational Therapy Show | Free for OTs; trade pass £299 + VAT |
| Therapy Show | Commercial delegate pass £399 + VAT |
| Care Show Birmingham | Free for care and NHS workers; commercial pass £499 + VAT |
| GIANT Health | Free for NHS staff; business £185 + VAT, executive £403 + VAT after 10 October 2026 |
| Cardiovascular Health Summit | £599 + VAT; complimentary places for eligible policymakers, patients and clinicians |
| FIS International | Full conference £724 (society members) or £858 (non-members) |
| FT Global Pharma and Biotech Summit | £2,499 + VAT (pharma and biotech), £3,499 + VAT (suppliers) |
Free passes are usually vetted: organisers check your role, and some (100% Optical, ACE) verify professional registration with the GMC, NMC, GDC or GPhC.
How do you get to the venues, and what do overseas visitors need?
Most events sit in five venues, all reachable by train from London.
| Venue | City | Hosts | Getting there |
|---|---|---|---|
| ExCeL London | London (Docklands) | London Vet Show, 100% Optical, Care Show London | Elizabeth line to Custom House |
| Olympia London | London (Kensington) | CVRM Professional Care, Best Practice London | Kensington (Olympia) station |
| Business Design Centre | London (Islington) | GIANT Health, ACE, Longevity Med Summit | Angel Underground |
| NEC Birmingham | Birmingham | Best Practice Birmingham, Digital Health Rewired, Nursing Live | Birmingham International station, next to the airport |
| EICC | Edinburgh | ESGAR, BAOMS ASM | Short walk from Haymarket station |
Visas and ETAs. Visitors can attend meetings and conferences as a Standard Visitor and usually stay up to six months. Nationals who don't need a visa, including Europeans and Americans, now need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before they fly; the UK government charges £20 and warns against unofficial sites that charge more. Check your own nationality with the gov.uk visa checker.
Plan ahead. Many free UK shows are open only to UK-registered professionals, so overseas clinicians should check eligibility before booking travel; BCLA, for one, issues visa invitation letters to international delegates.
How to choose the right UK healthcare event
Use four questions to narrow the list.
- Is it built for your role? UK shows are role-specific: a practice manager gets more from Best Practice than from a pharma summit.
- Are you eligible for a free pass? If you sell to the NHS, budget for a commercial pass; if you are a UK clinician, most shows cost nothing but your time.
- Do you need CPD or research exposure? Free shows give certificates for sessions attended; society congresses are where abstracts, posters and new evidence are presented.
- London or Birmingham? London hosts policy, investment and specialist events; Birmingham hosts the national shows with the biggest clinical audiences. Several Birmingham shows share a week (Best Practice, Respiratory Health and Care Show all run 6–7 October 2027), so one trip can cover more than one.
Register early: free places at shows like The Occupational Therapy Show are capped per role and allocated first come, first served.
