Business events in Dubai: how the calendar works

Published · Last updated

Dubai runs one of the densest event calendars in the region. Here is how it is organised, which industries own it, and how to attend without paying more than you need to.

Dubai’s business event calendar is unusually concentrated: a large number of events run through a small number of very large venues, which makes the year easy to read once you know the pattern.

Exhibitions lead

The defining format here is the international trade exhibition. Technology, finance, real estate and construction, energy, healthcare and logistics all have established annual fixtures that pull exhibitors from across the region and beyond. Summits and conference programmes usually attach to those exhibitions rather than standing alone.

When the season runs

October to May carries almost the entire large-event calendar. Far fewer major events are scheduled over the summer. Within the season, the weeks around the biggest exhibitions are the busiest and most expensive time to visit.

Getting in cheaply

Many exhibitions offer free trade-visitor passes to qualified industry professionals who register in advance — the exhibitors pay for the floor, so organizers want visitors through the door. The conference programme alongside is normally a separate paid ticket. Registering early is usually the difference between free and paid entry.

Dubai or Abu Dhabi?

Dubai hosts the majority of events. Abu Dhabi is second and growing, and is disproportionately strong in energy, defence and sovereign investment. They are close enough that attending events in both on one trip is normal.
