The short answer
Germany's leading technology events are large trade fairs: electronica with SEMICON Europa (Munich, 10–13 November 2026), it-sa for IT security (Nuremberg, 27–29 October 2026), SPS for automation (Nuremberg, 24–26 November 2026), embedded world (Nuremberg, 16–18 March 2027), automatica with Laser World of Photonics (Munich, 22–25 June 2027) and IFA Berlin (3–7 September 2027). Munich and Nuremberg host the hardware and industrial shows; Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne host the software, marketing and developer events.
Key takeaways
- Germany's technology calendar is driven by trade fairs at the big exhibition centres, not by standalone conferences.
- Munich and Nuremberg host the hardware, electronics, automation and security fairs; Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne and Frankfurt host most software, marketing and developer events.
- Exhibition tickets are cheap compared with conference passes: embedded world's exhibition ticket is EUR 25 online, while SAP TechEd Berlin costs EUR 1,999 plus VAT.
- Several Munich fairs alternate years: electronica runs in 2026 and productronica in 2027, and automatica, Laser World of Photonics and World of Quantum share June 2027.
- Buy tickets online in advance: electronica's day ticket is EUR 48 online against EUR 66 on site.

What does the technology event calendar in Germany look like?
Germany's technology events run all year, but most of the big trade fairs fall between October and June, with a second wave of consumer, games and marketing events from August to October. The country has no single tech capital: each exhibition city owns a few flagship fairs.
- Munich (Messe München): electronics, semiconductors, photonics, robotics and mobility. electronica 2026 and SEMICON Europa 2026 in November 2026, LOPEC 2027 in March, DMEA 2027 in April, automatica 2027, Laser World of Photonics 2027 and World of Quantum 2027 in June, IAA MOBILITY 2027 in September and productronica 2027 in November.
- Nuremberg (NürnbergMesse): security, automation and embedded systems. it-sa Expo&Congress 2026 in October, SPS 2026 in November, embedded world 2027 in March and SENSOR+TEST 2027 in May.
- Berlin: enterprise software, e-commerce and consumer tech. SAP TechEd Berlin 2026, E-commerce Berlin Expo 2027, IFA Berlin 2027 and next.app devCon 2027.
- Cologne and Hamburg: games and digital marketing. gamescom 2027 and DMEXCO 2027 in Cologne; OMR Festival 2027 and the CISO conference SHLD 2026 in Hamburg.
- Frankfurt and Düsseldorf: IT infrastructure, retail tech and robotics. IT-Tage 2026, fiberdays 2027, Tech Show Frankfurt 2027 and INTERGEO 2027 in Frankfurt; EuroCIS 2027, XPONENTIAL Europe 2027, WITEX 2027 and DIKITALE 2027 in Düsseldorf.
Smaller cities fill niches: LEARNTEC 2027 (digital learning) in Karlsruhe, Space Tech Expo Europe 2026 in Bremen and LogiMAT 2027 (intralogistics) in Stuttgart. The live list is on atndr's technology in Germany page.
Which technology events in Germany matter most, and who are they for?
The best-known German technology events are the trade fairs that lead their field worldwide. electronica's 2024 edition had more than 3,480 exhibitors and over 80,000 visitors, and it-sa's 2025 edition had 993 exhibitors and more than 28,260 trade visitors from 64 countries. Pick by audience rather than by size.

Trade fair or conference: which should you attend?
Go to a trade fair to source products and meet suppliers; go to a conference to learn a platform or meet peers. Germany's technology calendar is unusual because the trade fair dominates: most of the large events are exhibitions run by the city's exhibition company, with a congress attached.
- Trade fairs such as electronica, SPS, embedded world and productronica are built around stands. Visitors are engineers and buyers comparing components, machines and software. A day ticket is usually enough, and the free forums on the show floor cover the main trends.
- Conferences such as SAP TechEd Berlin 2026, IT-Tage 2026 and next.app devCon 2027 are built around sessions and workshops. They suit developers and architects who want hands-on training, and they cost more.
- Hybrids combine both. OMR Festival 2027 mixes a large expo with stages and masterclasses; DMEA 2027 and it-sa run a congress beside the exhibition.
Some fairs run a separate, paid conference track. At SEMICON Europa 2026 the exhibition is on the visitor ticket, while each technical conference costs extra. At embedded world, the exhibition ticket does not include the two conferences.
How much do tickets cost?
Exhibition tickets for German technology fairs usually cost EUR 25–85 a day when bought online, while multi-day conference passes run from several hundred to about EUR 2,000. Prices below are from each event's atndr listing for the edition shown.
| Event | Ticket | Price |
|---|---|---|
| embedded world 2027 | Exhibition ticket, online only, includes local transport | EUR 25 |
| electronica 2026 | One-day ticket | EUR 48 online, EUR 66 on site |
| SPS 2026 | Day pass, early bird with info service | EUR 50.50 |
| it-sa 2026 | One-day ticket, includes local transport | EUR 72 |
| E-world energy & water 2027 | Day ticket | EUR 85 |
| OMR Festival 2027 | Festival ticket, standard | EUR 649 |
| SAP TechEd Berlin 2026 | Standard rate | EUR 1,999 plus VAT |
Some events are free for the right visitor. Space Tech Expo Europe 2026 is free for technical, engineering and manufacturing professionals, and electronica's student ticket is free on the last day. Exhibitors often send free voucher codes to customers, so ask your suppliers before paying.
Many German fair tickets include a public transport ticket for the host city (the KombiTicket). Check the ticket page before buying a separate fare.
How should you choose a technology event in Germany?
Choose by what you need to leave with: suppliers, skills, customers or contacts. These criteria help narrow the calendar.
- Your role. Engineers and buyers get most from the fairs (electronica, SPS, embedded world, productronica). Developers get more from conferences (SAP TechEd, IT-Tage, next.app devCon). Marketers belong at OMR Festival or DMEXCO.
- The edition year. Several fairs are biennial. electronica runs in even years and productronica in odd years, so 2027 is a productronica year in Munich. automatica is held every two years too.
- Combined trips. Co-located events save a journey: electronica with SEMICON Europa; automatica with Laser World of Photonics and World of Quantum; LogiMAT and embedded world share 16–18 March 2027, in Stuttgart and Nuremberg.
- Language. International fairs work in English. Some conferences, such as IT-Tage, the Tax Technology Conference and DIKITALE, are aimed mainly at German-speaking audiences.
- Budget and timing. Early-bird prices end weeks before the event, and hotels near the big fairgrounds fill early in fair weeks. Book both as soon as your dates are fixed.
- Trade-only rules. Most fairs admit professionals only. gamescom and IFA also open to the public, so pick their business or trade days if you are there to work.
Germany is in the Schengen area. Visitors who need a visa can usually get an invitation letter through the organiser or an exhibitor they plan to meet.
